Dominique Varma studied Classics and Literature at the Sorbonne, and has also a M.A. in Indian philosophy and Sanskrit. She teaches at the University of Lille, in the North of France, and for the last twenty years has gone back and forth between India and France. She co-edited a collection of essays entitled Memories of the Second Sex published by Somaiya Publications in 2000. Her first novel Shifting Sands was published in English by Penguin India in 2004 and in French as Sables Mouvants by Kailash Editions Paris in 2005. Dominique Varma’s second book of fiction After the Deluge has been published by Rupa in 2014.
