Aravinda has been working closely with children’s literature for the last ten years, as a librarian and author. She has worked with Hippocampus Children’s Library where she was involved in book selection and advisory and in creating reading programmes. Aravinda also set up Lama Mani Books, a publishing imprint for a Tibetan NGO. Two books for children, Dorje Visits the Gyenso Khang and Dolma Visits the City were published in 2009 to commemorate 50 years of Tibetan exile. She has published with Penguin Books India, authoring Puffin Lives – The 14th Dalai Lama (2011) and co-authoring Playing to Win by Saina Nehwal (2012). Another Puffin Lives title on astronaut Sunita Williams is scheduled for a 2014 publication.
Aravinda finds Indian children’s publishing to be at an exciting point, poised for the next phase in a way. She believes there is great opportunity to produce fantastic books but for real progress all the stakeholders must envision a big picture and agree to work towards it, settling complacence aside.
