Geeta Malhotra joined READ India in 2008; empowering rural communities on Education and Development through Community Library and Resource Centers. READ India has set up 17 Centers in 7 years reaching 200,000 population in rural India. READ India focuses on women’s empowerment by developing their skills for better earning and contributing to their family’s income, in turn investing for better education of their children.
Before joining READ India, Geeta worked as Head, ICT Advocacy and Grassroots Communications for 4 years, taking ICTs at the rural platforms of Asia. As Founder of Community Radio, she trained more than 1000 NGOs and communities on the importance of radio in communications for development, apart from other ICT tools.
Earlier, she worked with Population Foundation of India for 25 years and left the Organisation as Programme Officer-Advocacy and Communications with the key responsibility of advocating Population and Development at the policy level by organizing Annual JRD Tata Orations, Seminars and Conferences etc.
