Kannan Sundaram founded Kalachuvadu Pathippagam in 1995. In 2010 it was converted into a private limited company of which he has since been the Managing Director and Publisher. He is also Editor and Publisher of Kalachuvadu, a monthly journal for culture, society and politics. He co-organised ‘Tamil Ini 2000′, a privately funded International Tamil conference on 20th century Tamil writing. He has been part of the International Visitor Program to the U.S (2002) and of the Frankfurt Book Fair fellowship program (2007).
Kannan is on a mission to get the best of Tamil literature translated into other Indian and world languages and vice versa. And through his magazine, he is attempting to forge an international Tamil identity which is not aggressive, illiberal or separatist. He is himself the author of a six books containing his columns and critical articles on Tamil media, culture and politics.
